If you just can’t wait for warm sunny days to replace winter cold and rains, keep reading. We hope that you are going to find these tips and tricks helpful and that we can help you to enjoy the ride during the summer heat.

Although we are not going to discuss it further now, make sure to check up on your bicycle thoroughly after the winter break. Today, we are going to talk about how to choose adequate summer clothing for cycling.

You might think there’s nothing to learn here; if it’s hot, you wear a short sleeve T-shirt and that’s it! You are right, of course, still, you might want to hear what we have to say.

While practising an intense activity such as cycling at high temperatures, you start to perspire. In order to feel comfortable wear clothes specifically designed for cyclists and made of special functional fabrics or Merino wool. Synthetic materials will dry faster compared to cotton fabric which make them more comfortable. On the other hand, quality Merino wool is breathable and absorbs moisture and that gives you a nice cooling sensation.

Cycling tops are designed to dry quickly and are breathable thanks to mesh structure. Sometimes these tops come with a zipper which is great for extra cooling. In case they provide UV protection, that’s a bonus!

Shorts are an excellent choice for the hot summer days. Make sure you buy the right size – you don’t want them to be too tight or too loose; that would be annoying while cycling, wouldn’t it? You can’t go wrong with undershorts, too, especially padded ones. They are an answer to your saddle sores, particularly during the long rides.

As for the footwear, of course you can wear your old pair of trainers. However, specialized cycling shoes are a better option. They have sturdy soles and are made of light, breathable materials so your feet will stay dry and light. An extra tip – go a size up; that way your feet will always have enough room. And that’s really important if you want to avoid the problems caused by swollen feet.

There is one piece of the equipment you should choose very carefully and that’s your helmet. Zzuum’s recommendation is to wear the helmet always, no exceptions –  safety first! Choose the one that provides optimal ventilation on high temperatures and when it comes to colours, go white. White colour reflects the heat and it’s the best choice.

Don’t forget to take care of your hands, so wear gloves! Gloves would protect them in case of a fall but also provide a good grip. Much better than a sweaty hand can do.

Sunglasses are unavoidable accessories that protect your eyes from sunlight, wind and bugs. Also, a nice fashion statement

Finally, don’t forget the sunblock. Although it is not a part of clothing it is important. Sunblock protects your skin from sunburns so that you can enjoy your favourite outdoor activity safely and without health risks.

Even if you are just an amateur and enjoy cycling occasionally it is worth investing in quality summer clothing for cycling. There are so many brands and manufacturers and we are sure you will find what you need without spending too much money.

Zzuum wishes you a safe drive and a good time outdoors!
